Top Eight Things We Learned at Client Connect 2012

Our second ShopVisible Client Connect is down in the books, and we’ve spent the last two weeks sorting through the incredible content from our presenters. This year’s theme was “Connected Consumer,” with a focus on the multiple channels customers are using to shop. The rapid rise of smartphone users and tablet shoppers presents challenges to retailers, but our clients learned best practices to reach their customers, no matter where they’re shopping. Here are our top eight takeaways from this year:

(1) 7 Minutes: The increase in average time spent on a website for visitors signed in with a social login. - Jason Brett, Silverpop

(2) When planning an ecommerce platform switch, have an idea of what you want before you get started. Make these decisions prior to platform selection. - Bill Thayer, Loehmann’s

(3) You don’t decide whether something goes viral or not, people do. - Todd Slutzky, Studiocom

(4) For every extra second it takes for a page to load, conversions go down 7%, page views go down 11%, and satisfaction goes down 16%. - Craig Hyde, Rigor

(5) Average shopper now uses 10.4 sources of information before making a buying decision. - Sean Cook, ShopVisible

(6) It all starts with and comes back to company culture. Empower people to create great experiences for your customers. - Florian Vollmer, Info Retail

(7) 20% of all internet product sales occur through a comparison shopping engine. - Will Devlin, ShopVisible

(8) It’s not just about the user demographic, it’s about the core behavior of your user. A customer’s demographic will change over time, but their core behaviors will always remain the same. - Eric Holtzclaw, User Insight
