Meet Your Ecommerce Match - Who

When looking for the perfect person to run your ecommerce initiatives, "Who?" is an important question to ask yourself. And, the answer to that question depends on your business set-up and culture, your needs, and your goals.

Below, we've listed several questions to ask potential ecommerce candidates to help guide the conversation and uncover if he or she is the right match for you.

Are you adventurous and interested in innovating?
How adventurous are you when it comes to the following?

  • Social Commerce - Are you comfortable with social media? Social commerce is an arm of commerce - can you take the Web experience and adapt it to a social environment while keeping in mind the preferences of your audience? Do you see ROI in social commerce? Do you have the skill-set to drive the social commerce strategy for your organization?
  • Mobile Commerce - Are you willing and able to go wherever your customers are? Tell me, what's your opinion about the value of real-time information being delivered to users' fingertips? If you see the value, do you know how to implement it? What would you do to implement it?
  • Comparison Shopping Engines & Online Marketplaces - How willing are you to put yourself out there - on comparison-shopping engines and marketplaces like Amazon.com and Overstock.com? Give an example of pushing to various channels, how you did it, and what the results were.
  • Search Optimization - What words you think best describe yourself? Would your closest customers use the same words? Do you understand the importance of how search engine optimization can help you beat your competition in natural search? Give an example.
Can your personality adapt depending upon your environment?
Are you able to take a holistic look at the entire customer experience - brick and mortar to online and vice versa? Would you be able to handle integrating technologies to support both experiences?

Can you deal with a bit of complicated baggage?
Many great companies carry baggage from previous partnerships. Do your technology skill-sets translate across the multiple integrations required for a full commerce solution? Are you confident that you could oversee integrations with a payment processor, order fulfillment partner, ERP system, CRM tool, and so forth?

Are you open to change?
Are you willing to try new things? The evolution of commerce has forced the 'e' out of ecommerce - are you someone who can handle everything related to commerce? Can you keep us up to speed with how consumers are shopping today and be ready to position us where customers will shop tomorrow?
