In addition to thinking about the qualities of who might be a good fit for your commerce team, it's also important to reflect on what's most important to you and your organization.

What Are You Looking For?

Someone who can handle all of your needs:
It's essential that you partner with someone who understands technology across mutliple touchpoints. You need someone who can speak to consumers, but who is also well versed in the technologies that will connect you with those consumers.

Someone who understands you:
Ultimately, you should partner with someone who understands your business and how commerce fits in with your overall company strategy. It's important that they look for ways to keep commerce efforts from disrupting existing technologies and legacy systems.

Someone you can grow with:
You need a commerce partner who can set the plan for the continued growth of your business - develop affiliate marketing programs, optimize and implement campaigns for search marketing, channels, mobile commerce, and social commerce that complement your brick-and-mortar activities (if applicable).

Someone who reflects on his or her actions:
Look for someone who has a deep understanding of marketing analytics and who tests the effectiveness of the campaigns they implement. It is not enough to just add new things to a website. You have to test, re-test and optimize for the best possible outcome.

Someone you feel secure with:
One of the most important qualities to search for in a candidate is the ability to implement an effective online security plan. You should engage with someone who is well versed in vulnerability testing and patching practices and who is able to keep you compliant with ever-changing PCI laws.

Someone who brings out the best in you:
The best candidate is the person who will always push you to be better. Look for someone who can find ways to reudce supply chain costs, merge technologies, and improve the overall customer experience.
